The Starling Resistant Flicker House, by Coveside was designed because Flickers love our Flicker House, but unfortunately starlings do too. Woodpeckers prefer a box with roughened interior and a floor covered with a two-inch layer of wood chips or coarse sawdust. Flickers are especially attracted to nest boxes filled with sawdust, which they "excavate" to suit themselves.
This design exploits the Flicker's tree climbing ability. Approaching the entry from below, the opening is protected from direct access by a Plexiglas shield. This shield keeps starlings from accessing the bird house since, unlike the Flicker, starlings cannot climb up the face of the house. The front opens for clean out and comes with wood shavings for nesting material.
For best results, place the box high up on a tree trunk exposed to direct sunlight. 11”Dx16”Hx7”W. Made in the USA. This hand-crafted product may take up to an additional week to ship.
